Alright, really quick here's a breakdown of some things I like/dislike in sports:
Like:
Competition.
-In my, and I'm sure most other peoples, opinion sport wouldn't be sport without the competition. We would just called it....I don't even know what we would call it... but it wouldn't be sport, because by the very nature of the word, it implies the need for a competitive edge.
Dislike:
Basketball.
-I'm sure people are asking, "How can you not like basketball?!" And the answer is simple; because I don't! I've been to games and I like getting hyphed up in the crowd, but when it comes to going out of my way to watch a basketball game, I don't think I've ever once done so. It's not exciting to me, and there's not really much to watch in my opinion.
Business as Usual
This blog is intended to get me an A in my college freshman English course. Honestly I'm not expecting anyone to read this, but if you stumble upon it, leave some funny comments or something.

Being that I no longer own a Television, or have a cable connection, for that matter, I turned to CCN.com to find 3 random news stories to share. This is my take on the most pressing matters in the United States, at this time.
That Sweet, Sweet Nectar:
Apparently, most Groceries are selling honey without a pollen content. This means that the honey may be originating from "legitimate" sources. Just as a disclaimer, I am not an expert bee-keeper, honey-producer, or anything else, however, It makes me wonder, what illegitimate sources are capable of producing honey? I feel as though your local drug dealers are more than likely not making tainted batches of the stuff and selling it to Kroger. In my Opinion, Keep buying those little plastic bears with the golden goodness on the inside.
Also in the News:
Taylor Swift, aka: T-Swizzy. She swept the Country Music Awards, taking home the Nights biggest prize of Entertainer of the Year. It's no secret that I love Taylor Swift, and if you don't, I prey we meet so we can settle things, just leave your name in the Comment Section below. If you're Kanye West and you're reading this, don't bother, I've beaten you once, even if you refuse to acknowledge it...
moving on...
In The Jungle, The Lion Is Not Sleeping Tonight:
Wal-Mart announced that on Black Friday, it will, unsurprisingly, be open for business. However, it will also be open the Night before as it stated that, "customers would rather shop late, than to wake up early" this being said, You better believe I'll be there!
ROUND TWO!
Three things very Quickly that I would change about this class, If possible:
1. No Book, I've never Read it, and I feel as though have a good hold on the material.
2. We should be able to conference the final paper.
3. Somehow fix the computers so I can link Youtube Videos from class, to my Blog.
Bam! I'm out!

The Deviance of Adbusting
Above is the Adbuster that I've created. In it you can see a large man eating an even larger burger, I'm using this image as a model for society's perception of Fast food Restaurants such as McDonalds. The Thesis of my paper is the general thought in America that Americans are overweight and unhealthy, and the blame of this goes to such eateries as McDonalds. However, what people have failed to realize is that it is not these establishments making a nation gain weight, but the choices the people themselves make in choosing their diets.
This thought deviates from the lot of society in that although many would like to place blame on restaurants like McDonalds, they themselves are responsible for their diets.

Swoosh
Tasked with analyzing an ad for this entry, I chose this image of Tiger Woods. Woods is pictured with both the Nike "Swoosh" behind his head, and as the shape of his mouth. This suggests that to Woods, Nike, one of his major sponsors, is all encompassing. To be direct, he speaks Nike. This ad asserts that since he is sponsored by this company, he is almost obligated to speak about it, in a positive manner at all times. He is displayed in a suit which says that he is all business when it comes to his sponsors.

My Own Film
John Smith is a regular teenage boy who is terrible at sports. He's picked last for any inter-mural teams, and is even incapable of playing sports video games without losing horribly. All of this poor-fortune forces John to take a walk around the local Toxic Waste Dump, as most kids his age would do. However, one day, he slips in a pile of Toxic Waste #9 and passes out. When he wakes up, he's in his bedroom, with his friends calling, offering to play baseball with him. He eventually accepts their offer, as he is still trying to figure out what's going on.
At the game, he hits a home run, and is faster than he has ever been before. This extraordinary ability continues and he joins his High School baseball team. One game he is scouted by a professional team, and ultimately plays for them in the Big Leagues.
John has power, fame, money, and of course, lovely ladies. He is living the good life, until one day two men come to his house, attacking and kidnapping him. They question him about the Toxic Waste #9 from his childhood, and force him to show them where the last remaining barrel is. As John looks at them, they keep flickering in and our, almost like a bad hologram, however he is used to this since the accident this is how he sees all people and things from time to time. As he has no idea where to find the last barrel, he escapes with the use of his super-strength and continually avoids them as the two men seem to be around every corner.
One day, 20 years after the accident, on the biggest day game of his life, he is the last one walking out of the locker room, and suddenly the lights go out, he here's people yelling, but can see no one. Some yells, "He's coding!" but is confused by this. He feels jolts to his body and is in extreme pain, feeling his body go weak, he struggles, harder than he ever has before, until....the pain stops. Everything is black and he hears someone say "He's stable, he's okay" Slowly, light starts to creep in from his eye lids and the person he has been hearing begins to become frantic yelling that, "he's waking up! Someone call his parents! He's waking up!"
John opens his eyes fully, looks around at the Hospital, and the bed he lays in. He is no longer a strong man, but a weak interpretation of what he once was. Looking at the nurse he asks her what is going on, but finds himself unable to speak.
the nurse tells him that he has been in a coma for the last 20 years. Everything John has lived has been imagined.
Movie ends/ Credits Role.

Not Necessarily a Favorite
So this post will focus primarily on a sports film. I recently watched the movie "Fighting" and although I feel as though I cannot quite yet consider it my favorite movie, I did enjoy it thoroughly. "Fighting" centers itself around the gritty lifestyle of street boxing in New York. What initially drew me to this movie was the Fight scenes. As a full-blooded, all-American guy I am naturally drawn to anything gory or brutal. The main conflict of this film centers around a fighter dealing with a bad past, who just recently began street boxing. Money and Status come into play as he determines ways of dealing with his life, as it begins to change with the money he earns from the fights.
This is a fantastic movie, one which I would recommend to anyone who likes a good Fight Movie.

Social Influences on Sport Participation
As you grow and develop in a sport, the influence of other people will become more and more integral in determining your commitment to that sport.
For instance, in running Cross Country, the camaraderie of your teammates goes a long way towards how far you are willing to push yourself. A supportive and understanding Coach will also help you grow as an athlete. But ultimately, your true desires will unveil themselves, especially in such a sport as Cross Country. If it is not something you absolutely feel connected with, and are striving to improve in, it will be hell for you. A popular saying from my old High School team was, "Our sport is your sport's punishment!" which was true. Running has come to be looked at as something to be avoided but it is that toughness and grit that kept me coming back day after day. It is the sweat of hard work that my teammates and I experienced each day, and together we persevered when at one point or another, none of us thought we could have.
It is clear now, that although I was happy to start Cross Country, it is only because of my Father and our middle class lifestyle. Those influences are ultimately why I decided to get out and try it, because both our parents and our family's economic situations are the reason as to sport participation.
